The wood is all pre-waxed. No nail holes - instead pre-drilled SCREW holes for more precise assembly. And both the pre-waxed hive body AND the pre-waxed foundations smelled so much like "bee home" that our girls spent no time getting acquainted - they just moved right in!

Hives and such are easy to put together and are good quality. The package did come damaged with a small chip to the bottom board, but nothing detrimental. Would recommend rethinking the packaging or add styrofoam?

When I opened the box and saw all the parts I was worried that I would not do this correctly. But the parts fit together snug and the instructions were straightforward. Not only does it look good, especially with the beeswax finish, but it is fairly sturdy.
